Part of CE1 Colburn Celebrity Series 1
About This Performance
For a remarkable four decades, the Emerson Quartet has reigned as one of the world’s preeminent chamber ensembles, longevity that few groups have achieved.
The four artists are joined by another iconic performer, soprano Renée Fleming, for this anniversary celebration, which combines the Romantic Classicism of Brahms with the post-Romantic Modernism of Alban Berg and Egon Wellesz.
The latter two composers, born in the same year, have a remarkable musical affinity: the rich, densely post-tonal sound world of Wellesz’ sonnets becomes the perfect prequel for Berg’s expressionistic Suite, which also features Ms. Fleming.
