Inside The Music Concerts
Focusing on Mozart’s final year, Dudamel leads the gorgeous Clarinet Concerto – featuring Martin Fröst, one of the world’s preeminent clarinet soloists – and highlights from the enchanted opera The Magic Flute. Both works were premiered shortly before Mozart’s untimely death.
Listen to an extended podcast regarding Mozart’s The Magic Flute, featuring KUSC DJ Brian Lauritzen:
Our new Principal Guest Conductor Susanna Mälkki cuts across a range of German music, featuring our Principal Cellist Robert deMaine in Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s highly colorful and uniquely creative concerto from 1966, complete with dancers from the Tero Saarinen Company. The massive orchestra Strauss requires for his Alpine Symphony creates imposing force.
Celebrating Salonen as composer, we present the newly revised version of the work he composed for the opening of Walt Disney Concert Hall. This will also be our first chance to see violinist Vilde Frang – already a sensation in Europe – in Beethoven’s towering concerto.
Dudamel teams with famed director Peter Sellars for Robert Schumann’s rarely performed oratorio Das Paradies und die Peri, about a fairy-like spirit – somewhere between an angel and a devil – who is trying to re-enter heaven. The climactic end of our season!
